HOLY ANGELS SUPPORTS WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA

Dear Parents:

Once again, Holy Angels Catholic Academy will be joining Viking Love NYC, a 501(c)(3) organization, to honor our veterans this Christmas Season.  Together with Wreaths Across America, we will honor our country’s fallen with a wreath placed on their grave.  Over the past several years, Viking Love has honored over 5,000 soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.  Their goal this year is to honor each military grave in Cypress Hills Cemetery.  Wreaths cost $15 through Wreaths Across America and we hope every family will purchase one.   All funds raised go directly to providing the wreaths.  Please make checks out to Viking Love NYC.  The money is due on Monday, December 3.    CLICK HERE to print order form.

As a community, Holy Angels Catholic Academy will be renting a bus and we invite parents and students to join us in assisting with the placement of the wreaths.  There will be an official ceremony at Cypress Hills Cemetery at 12:00 pm on December 15, with the placement of the wreaths following.  You would need to arrive at school by 10:30. The bus will be leaving the cemetery to return to school about 1:00 pm.  Students who participate will receive extra credit in Religion.  Please join us in showing our support for our veterans.  We are the Home of the Free because of the Sacrifice of the Brave.

As always, thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Rosemarie McGoldrick
Principal

LOOK What’s NEW at HOLY ANGELS:

CHROMEBOOKS:  This school year saw the introduction and use of Google Chromebooks by grades 6, 7 and 8.  The advantage of their use is boundless.  In the classroom, students can immediately research background history of the topics at hand.  It reduces the time and stress spent on homework by providing the teacher with the students work in “real time.”  The teacher can monitor the students’ assignments and critique them along the way, guiding the students to properly understand the assignment.  In these days of such sophisticated technology, the students enjoy using their Chromebooks to complete assignments both in the classroom and at home.  The use of these Chromebooks helps enhance our STEM Program.

CENTER FOR ARCHITECTURE:  Our grade 4 students have embarked this year on a new program provided by the NY Center for Architecture “Learning by Design”.   This unique one (1) hour program teaches students theory, planning, and design.  Students use their math and science skills through a hands-on approach to create an exciting atmosphere of learning and again, enhancing our STEM Program. (see attached informational flyer for more info.)

I-PADS:   Thirty (30) new I-Pads have been made available for our students use both in our Technology Lab, and in the classroom.

The excitement is contagious and Holy Angels continues to move forward in providing an excellent education for all students.
